A quaint town, maybe someplace like Mayberry, was where my heart longed for. There, and my grandma’s house (with her picture perfect backyard). I wanted to tend the garden and plant some flowers. I wanted to sit on the front porch, eating a fresh cucumber, skinned, salted, and whole. Maybe I would do my laundry, but the pay-to-use washer and dryer weren’t quite right. No, I wanted to hand wash my clothing and hang them out on a clothesline to dry.
Today, I really wanted to play pretend.
So, after fighting this intense desire for some place I couldn’t have, I decided to go for a walk to a nearby field that always catches my eye when I drive past. I thought watching the sun set in a field of overgrown grass and wildflowers would fix my incurable daydreaming, but I just ended up with a rash and tons of my mosquito bites. You see, I’m allergic to grass and mosquitos were everywhere to be found. I suppose my eyes were too busy lusting over the beautiful sights that I lost all ability to reason.
I feel betrayed by my wandering eyes and terribly, terribly itchy.
